If you found your way here, welcome. Whether you have been sitting in our chairs for years or you are meeting us for the first time, this new website was built for you, and we wanted its first post to be a proper introduction: who we are, how we practice, and what you can expect when you walk through our door on Deerfoot Parkway.
Who we are
Toups Family Dentistry is a doctor-owned dental practice in Trussville, Alabama. That phrase, doctor-owned, matters more than it sounds. It means the person whose name is on the door is the same person leaning over your chair, making every clinical decision, and answering for every one of them. No corporate office in another state, no production quotas, no rotating cast of providers. One dentist, one team.
Dr. Toups grew up in Dothan, Alabama, and spent more hours than most kids in a dental chair, which is exactly where a love of science and art turned into a calling. She graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State, earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from UAB in 2017, came to Trussville as an associate in 2018, and bought the practice in 2019. She and her husband did not just take over an office here. They moved their family here on purpose. Their three kids are in the schools and on the ballfields, and they both teach Sunday school just down the road. When we say we treat you like a neighbor, it is because we are one.
The team behind her has cared for some of the same families for years, hygienists and assistants you will actually recognize visit after visit. And yes, there is one team member with four legs. Suzanne, our office dog, is real, and she is the bestest. You will meet the whole crew on the site soon.
How we practice: conservative, on purpose
If you remember one thing about this office, make it this: we practice conservative dentistry. That is not a slogan. It is a set of habits you will notice in the chair.
It means we preserve natural tooth structure whenever we can, because you only get one set. It means not every shadow on an X-ray gets drilled today. Some spots get watched, and when watching is the right call, that is what we recommend. It means we start with the smallest fix that solves the problem, a filling before a crown, bonding before anything bigger. And it means you will never be talked into treatment you do not need. You get plain explanations, honest options, and the final say.
It also means honesty about our limits. Most of your care happens right here, and when something truly calls for a specialist, we tell you plainly and send you to someone Dr. Toups knows and trusts. You always leave with the right person doing the right job.

Some of our favorite patients are the ones who put off calling for years. If that is you, you are exactly who this practice was built for. Dr. Toups says it best: every good visit is one step closer to erasing the bad ones. We keep visits unhurried, we offer nitrous oxide when nerves are part of the picture, and whether it has been six months or six years, you will not get a lecture here. Patients tell us all the time that they are not afraid of the dentist anymore. That sentence is the whole reason we do this.
