Relief for the ache
after an extraction.
A few days after a tooth comes out, most people feel a little better each day. If the pain suddenly gets worse instead, it may be dry socket. It is very treatable, and relief usually comes quickly once we see you.
What dry socket actually is.
After an extraction, a blood clot forms in the socket to protect the bone and nerves underneath while you heal. If that clot loosens or dissolves too early, the bone is left exposed, and that is dry socket: a deep, throbbing ache that can spread toward your ear, often with a bad taste or odor.
It usually shows up two to four days after an extraction. Call us as soon as you notice it. We gently clean the socket and place a soothing medicated dressing, and most patients feel noticeable relief soon after.
“Pain that gets worse after day two is your cue to call.”
Do not wait it out. Dry socket is quick to treat.
